Yammer, Slack, Teams, Workplace: The Same Kind of Different

In the digital age of communication, we seem to be having a less in-person conversation and more dialogues online; this is not alarming as 72% of the world population only access the internet via mobile.

If we think about our working population of 3.3B workers, whereas 72% only access the internet via mobile, this means 2B workers are without desktop devices. How are organizations staying connected with their teams? How are departments connecting? With so many organizations seeking a culture of transparency, innovation, and open doors - how can this culture be embraced more easily.

Through the last decade, we have seen several technologies emerge, and die, as they claim to connect, improve communication and collaboration for organizations. Four Technologies have risen to the top: Yammer, Slack, Teams, and Workplace.

As you are reading this article on a Workplace Partner website, we aren’t going to pretend that we aren’t a partner with Workplace From Facebook; however, we also have Microsoft Teams in our internal tools set, and we’ve previously used Yammer and Slack.

PSA: This article is not a sales pitch for Workplace, Teams, or any of the other tools. It is merely a compilation for comparison to help your organization in your decision-making process.

Which Tool is Best for Your Organization?

Each tool has a baseline of common features:

  • Direct Messaging
  • Groups
  • Image, Link, File Sharing
  • Mobile App
  • @mentions
  • Video Conferencing.

Yet, there are some major differences based on the unique needs of your organization, where one tool might excel over another. Take the following mini assessment to identify through the unique makeup of your organization which tools is best suited to your company. Assign one point to each tool for every time you answer yes or no.

I.e.: Does your company have workers without email? Yes. Give Teams and Workplace one point each, etc.

The Solution with the most points at the end would be the ideal tool for your needs.
